She doesnât show up for work all week. And when I go to her place, she isnât there either. I know because I break in.
âMonica.â I give a slight nod as she joins me at the entrance as I wait to see if Avani will come to work today.
âYou must have really upset her?â she says. Her correct observation pisses me off. Not even at her, but at myself all over again.
I give her a sidelong glance. âDonât you have work to do?â
She shrugs. âNot yet. Figured I would wait for Avani too. I like her, and itâs been weird not having her here running things this past week.â
Sheâs right, it has been weird. Hopefully, Avani will come back today, though I have been saying that every day.
If she was anyone else, I would fucking fire her ass.
But I think I overstepped and have to deal with the consequences.
I shouldnât have given in and fucked her. But my cock is hard from simply thinking about burying itself inside her again.
Not good. Not good at all.
âBoss.â
âYes, Monica.â
Sheâs looking down at her phone. âSheâs in the back,â she says quietly.
Sneaky bitch.
I scowl before I walk through the place and go straight to the back room. I find her at her locker, putting things away as she slides on heels.
âAvani.â
âHey,â she says, smiling and sliding on the other heel like nothing has happened between us.
âWhere the fuck have you been?â I ask.
âI took a holiday. Did you forget?â
âHoliday?â What the fuck? I do not remember giving her authorization for that.
âI put it on your desk before I left. Did you not read it?â
I spin and head to my office. As soon as I enter, I shuffle everything on my desk until I see her handwriting on a piece of paper. Clutching it, I stomp out of my office to find her at the front with all the girls around her. She looks up and smiles at me. but it doesnât reach her eyes.
âWalk away. Now!â I growl at the girls, and they run off quickly. âYou left a note?â I say to her, holding it up in my fist.
âI told you so. I had to get away. You know, with the death of my date and all.â She feigns compassion when I know she is lying.
âOh, did it hurt your feelings that the man who tried to roofie you got killed?â
âYes, it did.â She looks away, and that pisses me off even more.
âLiar.â
âIf you say so.â She flicks her hair over her shoulder. âIâm also giving you my two weeksâ notice. I think Monica would be good for the job, and I can start training her right away.â
âThat wonât be happening,â I reply, my chest tightening that sheâd even think of it. âI hired you for this.â
âAnd Iâve helped, turned this place upside down, and now I have it running how itâs supposed to be.â She picks up her paperwork and walks to the printer.
âIs this because I fucked you?â I ask. âThat wonât happen again.
